The ADELI directory, long the backbone of health professional identification in France, no longer receives any new registrations. For nurses, the transition to the RPPS has been completed, and this change significantly alters the way you identify yourself, bill, and access digital health services.
CPS ADELI card for nurses: what changed on December 31, 2023
The Digital Health Agency confirmed that all CPS cards bearing an ADELI number for nurses have been deactivated as of this date. In practical terms, if you still had a CPS card linked to your old ADELI identifier, it no longer allows authentication on e-health services: DMP, MSSanté, tele-services of the Health Insurance.

This deactivation is not just a simple label change. An inactive CPS card blocks access to third-party billing and to the consultation of the shared medical record. RPPS number for nurses: how to obtain it after the end of ADELI
The RPPS (Shared Directory of Health Professionals) assigns each professional a unique 11-digit number, valid for life, independent of the department of practice or mode of activity. The old ADELI, on the other hand, changed when you moved to another department.
Obtaining the RPPS number involves a precise sequence. Here are the concrete steps:
- Register with the National Order of Nurses via the portal ordre-infirmiers.fr, providing diploma, identification document, and proof of practice.
- The Order validates the registration and records your data in the RPPS via the eRPPS portal managed by the ANS.
- Your RPPS number appears on your personal file in the ONI member area, as well as on the public health directory (annuaire.sante.fr).
- A CPS card or e-CPS access (mobile application) is then issued to you, bearing your RPPS identifier.
The time between registration with the Order and the actual receipt of the CPS card may vary. Field reports differ on this point: some nurses report a few weeks, while others mention several months, depending on the processing load of the ARS and the ANS.
Prescriptions and billing software for IDEL: adapting your tools to the RPPS
The change of identifier has a direct impact on your professional documents. The RPPS number must appear on your prescriptions, care sheets, and orders in place of the old ADELI. If your stamp or letterhead still mentions a 9-digit number, they are obsolete.
On the software side, most specialized billing software for IDEL has integrated the transition. However, if you are using old software or manually configured software, ensure that the identification field correctly points to your 11-digit RPPS. An error at this level will cause rejections of electronic transmissions by the CPAM.
Correspondence between old ADELI and new RPPS
The ANS has established a correspondence table between the old ADELI numbers and the new RPPS. If an organization (mutual insurance, health establishment, replacement platform) still asks you for your ADELI number, you can find the correspondence via the health directory on annuaire.sante.fr by searching for your name.
This correspondence is useful during a transitional period where some IT systems have not yet updated their databases. The available data does not allow us to conclude when all organizations will have completed this technical migration.
Access to digital health services: e-CPS and RPPS identification

For employed nurses in establishments, the situation differs slightly. The establishment may have CPE cards (Establishment Personnel Card), but individual identification via the RPPS remains necessary for certain actions, particularly the electronic signature of health documents.

The transition from ADELI to RPPS does not only concern nurses. Other health professions (psychologists, dietitians, orthoptists) have followed or are still undergoing this process. Nurses were among the first affected, starting in October 2021, and the transition is considered complete between late 2024 and early 2025 for all historically ADELI professions.
For nurses, the subject is closed from a regulatory standpoint. ADELI will not return. The RPPS is the only identifier recognized by the Health Insurance, the ARS, and digital health platforms.
